We had a great time in Columbia this past weekend with Allie and John. It was fun with family and friends at City Art for the rehearsal dinner. Then, on Saturday, the weather couldn't have been better for the ceremony at the historic Salem Black River Church. The excitement of the ceremony continued to the reception as Millstone at Adam's Pond was decorated beautifully. Mo' Soul Band kicked it up with some great music as Allie and John danced through the evening...

Last weekend, we exhibited at Wedding Festivals in Asheville. We want to thank everyone who came by the booth--it was a fun show! It was also great to see our friends involved in the festival, other photographers, and wedding professionals from our area. We stopped in to say hi to Corey and Jill with the new SmoochBooth and had a blast. You can check them out at www.smoochbooth.com . another new addition...

Emma wanted to make sure that I announced a new addition to our family... We found Cinnamon in an animal rescue shelter in Tennessee and she seemed like she was a perfect fit for our family. Jen and I surprised Emma just before Christmas with an "early Christmas present"--and thus, Cinnamon entered our lives.

She has been such a neat addition to the family. She's a very sweet, relaxed dog who has taken to Emma like crazy! Cinnamon is a terrier mix (we think with a Yorkie, but are unsure). She's about 10 pounds and to my delight, she doesn't bark. Well, at least we've only heard her bark twice--once at our neighbor late a night and once at one of Em's stuffed animals that Cinnamon thought was a cousin :)

Anyway, if you are ever by the studio, stop in and say hello to Cinnamon. I'm sure she'd love to meet you!

Ok, I realize that it's been too long since our last post... Wow, time flies, especially over the holidays and starting the new year. We've been doing really well over the past month. A number of shoots, but mainly getting caught up on book designs and preparing for 2009. It's going to be a great year!

A new addition...
We have a new office manager!!! Meghan is the friendly voice you'll hear as you call our studio. We are really excited to have her with VISIO and are looking forward to her continued involvement in the company as well as our family. We wanted you to get to know Meghan so below her images is a little interview we had with her the other day. We have a new niece!

The week prior to Thanksgiving left much to be thankful for... We got to see family, fixed a major leak in our building downtown, and even caught up a little on editing. However, nothing compared to the birth of our new niece, Story Geneva! I was honored to be there for her birth, even getting to help out a little with the delivery. Story is as beautiful as her mother. We are all looking so forward to seeing the plans God has for this incredible child... Congratulations Jenn and Brent!

Last weekend, we were privileged to photograph Anna and Jeff's wedding. We have really enjoyed getting to know this awesome couple and are looking forward to continued get-togethers. The wedding was beautiful and the reception at Coleman Place was a blast with the Firecracker Jazz Band.

This past weekend, we flew to Sarasota to cover Kristin and Pete's wedding. They are an awesome couple that we've been getting to know via telephone for some time now. It was great getting to finally meet and record their day.
Nicole, with NK Productions did a fantastic job of decorating and scheduling the day. Held at the Powell Crosley Estate, the atmosphere was light and comfortable with classic details. I think Pete's grandmother said it best when she said "This feels like it is from an old Hollywood film."

Following the ceremony, Men from Mars kicked it in gear with some great 80's and 90's music. It was rad :) -- Definitely an evening to remember!

Kristin and Pete, thank you for allowing us to be a part of your special day. It was great finally meeting you and we look forward to getting together again sometime.

This weekend was great!!! The weather couldn't have been better and the couple...well the toasts said it all. Lauren and Seth are two very loved people! It was so neat once again to hear the family and friends rave about the bride and groom. We always love to see the interaction and emotion of a wedding celebration, and love that we get to be a part of such an awesome day. Thank you all for welcoming us so warmly.

Saturday started with Lauren and Seth getting ready. Everyone met at Camp Blue Star and the day couldn't have been more beautiful. Lauren (Poppy) looked amazing before, but truly looked radiant on her wedding day. E. Scott Thompson did a fabulous job with hair and makeup. The ceremony, cocktail, and reception sites were transformed into a gorgeous venue. Charlene, Maggie, and the rest of the team from Schlubach and Scharf did a fantastic job creating a truly magical place.

I realized that I haven't updated our blog in the past few weeks so I wanted to give an update. We had a blast Mark and Colleen of Wedding Festivals a few weeks ago for a model shoot at Gassaway Mansion. The day went really well and we were able to shoot get really fun images of some fantastic dresses and formal wear. Here are a few images from the shoot.

Well, summer has been amazing, but incredibly busy... As well, we have had quite a bit of change around here over the past few months. First of all, many of you have spoken to Elise over the past year or so. She was our studio manager and at times, a playmate for Emma :) At the beginning of the summer, Elise moved on to another job. She is working with her church in Black Mountain. It is working out well for her as it is a much shorter commute--close to home.

As well, toward the beginning of the summer, we purchased a building in the historic district of Marion. The building was built in 1893 and needs a ton of work, but has a ton of potential. We are keeping the possibility open for a studio down the road, but are focusing on a roof right now. It leaks like a 1986 Yugo. We unexpectedly had to replace the heating/cooling system downstairs as well. WOW! It must be made of gold... Anyway, we are excited about the space, and hoping that it becomes a good investment and not a money pit.

It has been a very busy summer as well with about 10 weddings so far and numerous other shoots. We are in the process of catching up on editing, print orders, book design and binding, email, etc. We're definitely missing Elise right now... We'll post again soon, but wanted to give you a quick update on what we've been up to. Take care and God bless!

Well, it finally happened... My little sister aint so little anymore. In fact she's growing rapidly; well, at least the child in her is growing rapidly. Jenn came over the other day for an impromptu big belly shoot. She was surprising her husband, Brent, with an anniversary gift. The last image is the final fine-art tryptic she gave Brent. I think he was surprised...

We are all excited about this new addition to the family. Any suggestions on a name would be most appreciated :)

Well, this weekend was great! Beautiful couple, beautiful setting, beautiful weather (for the most part... a little rain and some hurricane-like winds didn't stop 'em from having a great time). Coming all the way from Memphis, Angela and her team with Southern Event Planners did a fabulous job with the decor and design details. We have a great opportunity as we travel to weddings to capture some of the character and "feel" of each city we visit. Last weekend we were back in the low country as we shot Athena and Mitchell's wedding. It was a rainy day (like torrential downpour at times :) ), but the mood was not gloomy at all... The wedding, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox, was beautiful, as were the moments between Athena and Mitchell. Laura and Michael are good friends that we have known for a number of years. We had the honor of documenting Autumn (Michael's sister) and Brian's wedding a number of years ago. As well, Jen and Liz (Michael's other sister) are good friends. I've known the Talleys for close to 15 years now and have been so blessed by every member of the family. Laura is, as well, a very special person and it is exciting to see these two come together. The wedding was at TVR Christian Camp and Retreat Center, an awesome camp where we lived for about seven years.

We had an enjoyable Easter yesterday with beautiful weather, a great morning church service, and good food. However, this weekend has been a bit solemn as on Saturday, Charleston, our dog of over 11 years, passed away. He's had cancer for a while now and with a weak heart, he finally went to sleep on Saturday. It is amazing how much joy a pet can bring into our lives. Over the past few days, I have paused coming in the front door, almost expecting to see Charley run around the corner to greet us. Last night, I didn't sleep much at all because I am used to having Charley at the foot of the bed.

We got Charleston shortly after we were first married. I was reluctant at first, but Jen really wanted a dog. We chose the quietest in the litter of Schnauzers which we found out later is the wrong way to choose a pet :) Over the next few weeks, I fell in love with this little fur ball and over the next 11 years realized that he is more a part of the family than a pet. So if you're reading this and have a pet, I encourage you to go and give him/her a hug and a treat...

Charley is greatly missed.

Wild, Wild, West

We took our annual trip out to Montana last week and had a great time. This is a good time every year to get out of the office, see some of God's creation, get caught up a little on book design, and occasionally hit the slopes. Before launching in to professional photography full-time, Jen and I lived and worked at a Christian camp up in the mountains. We would take trail rides, head up the climbing elements, go whitewater rafting, etc. Each summer, more than 200 kids a week would come to the camp and do all of these activities and more. We also had close to 50 summer staff there for the summer. Christen was a counselor at the camp for a number of summers and we worked together with the Pioneers--the 3rd to 5th graders. We became good friends and over the past couple of years had lost touch a little. Jen and I were so excited to hear that Christen was engaged and we were blessed to be able to cover the wedding. Here are a few shots from that cold, snowy day in January.

We had a great time at the Guerrilla Management workshop in Fredricksburg, VA. This was a workshop primarily for business management geared to photographers. We also had a good time hanging out with James and Meridith of Walters & Walters photography . They're very talented photographers from Raleigh and just great people :) I'll post more a little later--our heads are still spinning from the trip.

So it has obviously been an incredibly busy fall with numerous shoots and weddings and travels across the country and even out of the country. Sorry we haven't had a chance to blog; it's been quite a while since our last and time hasn't been on our side :) BUT, (there's always a big but...) I'm gonna try and catch up with some of the images and happenings over the past couple of months. I'll simply date them when they occurred to keep it logical (for all you type A's out there). We were back at the Biltmore this weekend for Melissa and Chris' wedding. Although starting with some challenges (busted water pipe and heating issues to mention a couple..), the day couldn't have gone much better. Beautiful weather, great location, and a fantastic couple were in the mix for a wonderful wedding.

We headed down to Charleston this weekend to hang out with Sabryan and Dan. It was a beautiful wedding on Daniel Island. I really enjoyed spending time with "the brothers" and we had a blast shooting downtown with Sabryna. OFF TO ARUBA! We headed down to Aruba for a great time with Jen and Jason. We first had an "engagement shoot" where we headed across the island to a lighthouse, desolate beach, desert sand dunes, an amazing cave, and even an abandoned shanty. (Next time, we'll bring our GPS :) It's amazing how I can get lost on an island only 4 miles wide by 18 miles long... Wow!

We have had quite a bit of rain lately and Monday was no exception.. We had a shoot on Friday in Asheville with buckets coming down, a wedding on Saturday with steady rain most of the day, and a fashion shoot on Monday with a downpour in the afternoon. I'm thankful to Nikon and Canon for making their gear well sealed :) Here are a few shots from Monday. We were shooting for Wedding Festivals video fashion show.

As we were leaving Chimney Rock, we met the coolest couple. Jack and Sharon were hangin' out at the base of the mountain. I asked to get a shot of Jack and we talked a little. Come to find out, Jack is related (5th cousin) to Tom Dooley from the song.. It's great meeting people that you feel you can talk with right off the bat.. Anyway, here's the shot of Jack.

Last week, we had the opportunity to hang out with Melissa and Chris down at Chimney Rock. It was a beautiful day and we really enjoyed getting time with the soon-to-be-married couple. The only part I didn't like was realizing just how out of shape I really am! We must have hiked 10 miles.... well, 5 miles at least... ok, Jen said not even a mile, but it was uphill :) Here are a few shots from the day. Last weekend, we had a wonderful time with Katheryn and Geoffrey in Traveler's Rest, SC. They were married at the chapel at Cliffs at Glassy golfcourse with a beautiful reception held afterwards at Kenmure. It was a fantastic day with probably the most talented group of people we've been around. Katheryn and Geoffrey both graduated from Juilliard and hosted an unforgettable evening complete with ballroom dancing, tenor solos, and french horns with piano accompaniment.

Fly fishin' with Parker..

So as I'm catching up a little on this blog thing :), I wanted to share about last week's "first" for me... Our good friend Parker called and asked if I wanted to go fly fishing and camp out... This was my first time fly fishing and it was a blast! We hiked into Pisgah, just outside of Brevard, NC. The trail was beautiful as was our campsite--right on the river, with some deep pools and a little white-water. Parker taught me the basics and I managed to get my line tangled no less than 20 times, BUT it was a lot of fun and something I hope to do much more of (after wedding season :) ).. We spend the night and hiked out the next afternoon during a torrential downpour. I didn't actually catch anything on the trip, but I think the fish new I was a beginner---I'll get 'em next time..

Sooooo, it's been quite a while since I last updated. June has been crazy month with some awesome weddings and a fun time designing some amazing books... So here's a quick update.. Our last wedding was with Amy and Ryan atop Beech Mountain in Banner Elk, NC. They picked a beautiful spot at the Beech Aplen Inn with the reception held at the Beech Mountain Club. Everyday beauty...

So we were driving back from Birmingham and as you come into Georgia on 20, there is a pulpwood plant with a large grove of trees out front. Smokestacks in the background pumping out black smoke with this beautiful setting in front got me thinking about the beauty that surrounds the mundane... everyday, I pass by beauty in many forms without giving a second thought... A child on the playground, a leaf lying in a puddle, the shadows from a row of trees, etc. are moments to be captured in our mind's eye for their beauty, innocence, uniqueness, vibrance, and I could go on... Jen and I are very blessed to live in these beautiful NC mountains, but how often do I really pause to recognize the beauty in God's creation? Sad to say, not very often... Most of the time, I am too "busy" to stop and recognize a moment of beauty.

So here goes, I really want to make a conscientious effort to capture (rather in camera or in my mind's eye) beauty of all kinds. It is easy to see at weddings and portrait shoots as their is interaction between people. However, I want to also be mindful of the pleasing aesthetic at the grocery store or in the mountains or on the freeway. There is eye candy everywhere if we keep our eye's open for it.

I'll start this post with a few images and would love to hear from you your thoughts. As well, if you have taken any shots of beautiful moments or colors or flowers or people, please email me a shot and I'll post it on the blog after we get a few.. Hopefully, at the very least, we'll begin to pause and enjoy what's around us instead of only looking at what's ahead of us..

Ok, so we had a maternity or pregnancy or belly shoot yesterday and we realized we're not sure what to call them. Most photographers will call these shoots "maternity shoot" or "pregnancy shoot", but we want to be a little different.

So CALLING ALL CREATIVE PEOPLE, WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!

We are looking for a cool and creative name for these shoots.. We really want it to be different from what's out there, because we these shoots are-- well, different. So post any and all ideas.. There are no dumb ideas, just dumb people... no wait, that's not it... there are no dumb ideas, just some smarter than others... no.. anyway, inspire us!!

Friday, we had the pleasure of hangin' out with Julia and Constantine in Charlotte. They are a really cool couple that are tying the knot next month. We aren't able to cover their wedding, but were excited to have the opportunity to shoot their engagements. You can tell from the shots... they aren't photogenic at all ;)

We are very excited to announce that we have a new member of the VISIO team. Elise has just joined us as our studio manager. Elise is the friendly voice you may hear when calling the studio. She is graduating next month from Montreat College. Elise has been studying environmental sciences and has a great interest in photography (particularly nature and landscape). The Indy 500--

Ok, not really the Indy 500... I just couldn't think of any other cool taglines for Indianapolis.

We had a blast with Carrie and Jordan for an engagement session this past weekend. They were troopers as it was about 38 degrees and raining. We went to the Indianapolis Zoo, where they will be married in the arboretum later this summer. We are really looking forward to the wedding. We love the Kinnamans and Clarks!

We flew in from Phoenix to Orlando and had the pleasure of covering a vow renewal for Marc and Colleen. They are some great friends also in the wedding industry. We had a couple of days cruise before landing in Nassau for the wedding. Colleen planned everything to a "t" and it was a gorgeous day. Congratulations for 17 years of marriage!!!

The conference was fantastic. We got a lot of ideas and were challenged, particularly in the are of business and marketing, two of our weaknesses. It was great seeing old friends and meeting new ones. It was great running into John and his wife. As well, it's always great to see Scott Kouns. We definitely will have to get out to California sometime before too long. It was also so nice to meet and spend some time with Melanie Mauer, a very gifted photographer out of Kentucky.

The photography we saw inspired us, the seminars challenged us, but the best part was getting time with fabulous people..

Ok, so a while back I told you about some amazing chocolate. When we were in one of the shopping malls, we came across the Vosges boutique--a chocolate lover's dream. This decor was minimalist, the atmosphere was like a very upscale cafe or even jewelry store, but the chocolate was what we were there for.

So we arrived in Vegas a little early and met up with some friends that we had met last year. Shannon and Steve of Shannon Ho Photography are an awesome couple with a real gift for photography. We were planning on just coffee, but ended up spending most of the week together! We enjoyed every minute of it..

As well, we got some time with an old friend (and I mean OLD...) Mae. Mae is a lot of fun to be around because we share a similar sense of humor (corny with an edge of sarcasm..) It was great getting some time together and as well seeing Michael again and meeting the family--

Marion to Phoenix to Vegas...

Ok, ok, no more harassing emails, I know it's been a month since our last post :) It has been a busy month, traveling to Atlanta, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Orlando, Nassau, Bahamas, and Indianapolis. We've actually been away more than we've been home.. BUT, it has been a blast and we've had the opportunity to visit some great places with some amazing people.

About a month ago, we headed to Phoenix to introduce Em to her new cousin. Jen and I decided to drive to Vegas for WPPI, the biggest photography conference we attend each year. We had a great drive up and a great visit.

This was the view pretty much the whole way to Vegas--I've heard this stretch of road is really scenic.. who knows :)
